This weekend I will attempt a 1.2 mile swim in Lake Pontchartrain, a 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run for the Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans!  I am feeling confident and excited.

If I can make it through the swim (which is first), then I am 99.2% sure I can pace myself through the bike & run to be able to complete the whole race in under 8 hours (the official cut-off time).

Besides the swim, my biggest concern is nutrition.  I will need to consume a lot of calories on the bike to ensure that I will be able to complete the run portion.  We are talking about blasting anywhere between 550-800 calories an hour for 7 hours straight.  My plan is to eat bananas, chewy gels & liquid gels.  The worst of these is the liquid gels… they basically taste like flavored vaseline and are extremely hard for me to swallow.  Blech.

I have done several “landmark” races in my life that have moved me enough to start crying while racing… and I have a feeling that the happy tears will be flowing several times throughout the day on Sunday.  I believe you will be able to track me online in real time too, so I will post that information once I learn the instructions.  Keep me in your thoughts!!
