I got a text message from my sister Rachel last night saying that her fiance, David, wants to join me in our first ever ironman.  This got me so excited that I thought I would do a post today about 2011 sports goals!

After I finish my weight-loss goal of 145-150 by September or October, I am going to start training for the Mercedes Marathon next February.  This will be my first marathon and I have full confidence in being able to complete it.  I am so confident that I might even go for a time goal… which I never do in my first attempt at a new distance.  I think that between training for this event, sticking with The Carb Lovers Diet maintenance program, and counting my calories on MyPlate (while factoring in exercise) will give me the piece of mind and excitement I need to manage my new weight.

The next event of 2011 that I would like to participate in is the New Orleans Half Ironman in April.  The only problem with this event is that it’s so close to the Mercedes Marathon… 2 months to be exact… so I would have to train for both at the same time.  I think I will make the decision to do the half ironman later this year, but since I did participate in it this year I feel like it would be much easier the second time around (words that I may eat later…).  🙂

Last, but not least, my biggest goal of 2011: to complete the Florida Ironman next November.  This event is the reason for doing the others earlier in the year, so I can build my endurance and stamina to finish this one.  I have had the dream of completing a full ironman for about 5 years now.  Why?  I have no idea.  All I know is that there is nothing compared to the pride & accomplishment with finishing a distance you’ve never done before, so that can only be 10-fold in an event like the ironman.  I also have the dream of one day qualifying for the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, but that will be later in life.  Right now all I want to do is learn every aspect of the race – nutrition, bike maintenance, swim technique, and strategy.  And the only way to do that is by DOING IT.

Thanks to everyone for their comments on my blog post yesterday.  After reading some of them, I hope you guys didn’t think that I would ever starve myself or anything stupid like that.  I was just in a questioning mode and didn’t quite understand the concepts that I put out there.  I am very proud to say that I follow my calorie intake very diligently & responsibly.  If I didn’t do this, then keeping it off would be very difficult!  So, thanks again for reading & always showing your support.  This blog has made such a difference in my life.  🙂
