I wanted to take a few minutes to write about my BBQ blues from this past weekend.  While it is getting easier, I still can’t express enough the difficulty of being around an abundance of yummy food & people stuffing their faces with it.  I ended up eating just fine though – had a chicken breast with BBQ sauce, some fruit & a few pieces of stuffed pasta w/ veggies.  Premeal I had 2 or 3 crackers w/ some goat cheese.  The absolute worst part was watching everyone eat the peach cobbler for dessert!!!  Theoretically it would have been OK for me to have a bite or two, but it would have been such a tease.  So I passed.  It just boils down to that some days are going to be easy, and some days are going to be a little hard.  Now that a few days have passed, I am very proud of myself for my choices & will power.

On another food note, I tried something new last night.  Smart Ground tofu!  It was pretty good, but next time I think I will combine it with some ground sirloin or ground turkey breast.  Which brings me to a good point – do NOT buy ground turkey unless it is breast meat!  Did you know that ground turkey has almost the same amount of fat that regular ground beef does???  Well, I didn’t until our grocery store tour last week.

One last thing – I forgot to share one of the most exciting grocery store purchases from yesterday –  Fleischmann’s butter made with olive oil & sea salt!  I haven’t tried it yet, but it came recommended by Sonthe (our Carb Lover’s dietician).  For 1 tablespoon it has 60 calories, 45 mg of sodium, 6.5 grams of fat and is packed with omega 3s. Regular Land of Lakes butter has 100 cals per tbsp., 11 grams of fat & 95 mg of sodium.  So, it is a better “spreadable” option.  But for cooking, Sonthe recommends using regular full-fat butter since it has no added chemicals (unlike margarine).  Good to know!!!

Mmmmm, butter!
