I have been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be in my 30’s.  Next February, I will be 32.  For most people this time in life is usually focused around children.  Since we don’t plan to have kids, my personal satisfaction is going to come from other sources – like travel, sports, career and creative fulfillment.  These things take on a whole new level of importance when your happiness depends on them.

I’ve also noticed lately that my body is aging.  This isn’t a bad thing… just something that’s definitely happening.  When you are young, it is hard to imagine yourself looking older than you are.  So when it starts to happen it is almost like a mortality check… a reminder that we only have so much time to do what we need to do.  Are we doing everything we can to live our best life?  Or is time just slipping through our fingers as we try to conform to someone else’s expectations?

Fifty years from now I want to give myself a high-five for taking a few risks and living life in an unexpected way.  I’m gonna give it my best shot!
