HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE!!!!!!!!! Tonight we are going to celebrate with some friends over a nice dinner downtown… then maybe hit-up a dance club after the stroke of midnight.  We’ll see how late this chick can last since my bedtime of late has been around 9 p.m.  🙂

2011 Quest #5:  I resolve to learn another language.

I haven’t decided yet if I’d like to learn sign language (which I already know a little of) or Italian.  I would resolve to learn both, but I think that is a little too much for 2011.  🙂

I’ve always had an interest in sign language, even though I don’t have any family or friends who are deaf.  I remember getting my first sign language book back when I was 11 or 12 and being deeply fascinated with it.  I even took a class when I was in 7th or 8th grade and still remember a lot of what I learned.  I guess it’s just one of those strange interests that you can’t explain.

I would also love to learn how to speak Italian because I. LOVE. ITALY.  Who doesn’t?  I’ve been 3 times… it’s almost like a life force constantly pulling me there.  My first trip was to Genoa (Genova), Italy back in 2005 and it took my breath away.  I was also able to visit Florence on this visit.  It was unforgettable in every way.  The second time I went to Italy was to the Amalfi Coast (Praiano to be exact) for the wedding of my dear friends Jill & James in 2007.  That sealed the deal… I was officially an Italian at heart.  The third time I went was for my sister Christy’s wedding also on the Amalfi Coast in 2008, and this time I got to bring Mike!   The day after they got married, Mike proposed to me in the villa we were staying in next to the Mediterranean Sea.  It was a very special trip indeed.  🙂  You will see from the photos that this was during a time when I had lost a little bit of weight (I was around 165), so that is why I look smaller.  Over the course of 2009, I gained almost 30 pounds back.

2010 Flashback #5:  Ziplining in Cozumel, Mexico

I was pretty terrified to do this, as I have a fear of “hanging” from things like wire with nothing below my feet.  I also hate ferris wheels and sky lifts for the same reason.   But zip lining ended up being pretty amazing & was nothing to be afraid of after all!  It also helped that the lines weren’t too terribly high, and if you did fall (b/c I’m always thinking worst case scenario) the tops of the trees would surely break your fall.  Or at least that’s what I was telling myself.  Kinda like that scene in Avatar where the big leaves break Jake’s fall.  😉  Don’t think that I didn’t have a plan to cheat death.  I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Later on today I will post the year-end Mike Report.  Did he finish all of his goals?  We will see…
