For my year-end list, I came up a little short on the last one.   The holidays were jam-packed with activity, so even though I had a 3 weeks off from work, I had a lot less free time than I was anticipating.  It soon became clear to me that I was not going to finish an entire feature script from start to finish over the Christmas break.  But I don’t want to start 2011 on such a down note.  So, instead I decided to use my time to finish a different script that I had already started writing a while back .  One of my resolutions for the new year is to complete a lot of my unfinished projects, so this will be a nice way to kick off the new year with a big accomplishment.  This script is called “The Hoy Saga” and is a big-budget sci-fi summer blockbuster I came up with many years ago.  I have worked on it off and on for a while, but the only thing keeping me from finishing it has been me.   So I dusted it off last week, lock myself away in the office, and polished off 15 pages in 3 days.   I now have 61 pages finished, which is two-thirds of the way done.  I have no doubt I can finish this script in the next week or so.   Granted, this isn’t a movie I can shoot myself like the other script I’m going to write; this one will require millions of dollars and huge special effects.   But the great thing about writing a movie like that is since I’m not going to be the one paying for it, I can write whatever I want.  If I want to blow up a planet, I can just write, “The planet blows up.”  I don’t have to figure out the practical way of pulling it off; I can just let my imagination run wild.  But the most important thing is, I can finish it quickly and get it off my list.  I have printed out my completed pages and I will add to the stack with each new page I finish.  Seeing a tangible stack of pages on a table is a lot more fulfilling than looking at words on a computer screen.  It’s been a while since I had a complete script with my name on it, I am looking forward to reading this one!
