WW #44 – 146.2

BIG FAT THANKS to my friend Jessica of DOGingham for the special write-up today about my pursuit to raise $1,000 for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, and thus running the last 6 miles of my first full marathon in my bikini.  You can read the fun post by clicking here!

In other animal related news- the groundhog didn’t see his shadow today… so that means an early spring!!!  YAY!!  I am pretty grateful for that, and I’m sure those of you buried in snow in the northeast are especially so!

I haven’t told you guys my slightly alarming news, but I mildly injured by IT Band this weekend while doing hill repeats on Saturday.  I was still able to do my long run on Sunday, but had some pain that I probably shouldn’t have pushed through.  I had this same injury about 3 years ago, so I am familiar with how to treat it.  My sister Rachel, a physical therapist, confirmed it was my IT Band and told me to ice regularly and prescribed some stretches to help it heal.  The injury is nowhere near as severe as last time, so I have full confidence that I can make it better by just laying off of it this week.  I will focus on my swimming and use CrossFit for my upper body and midline strength so I don’t aggravate it.   The good news from all of this is that I got all of my important workouts in to effectively run the marathon next weekend.  I won’t lose any fitness between now and then, so all of my energy will be put towards healing my left leg.  Rachel also offered to do kinesio taping on my knee when I was ready to start running again just as extra protection.  I will film her explaining how this works when she does it for me!

Don’t forget to check out the DOGingham story, & see you guys tomorrow! 😀
