This morning I rejoined Vero for a morning run for the first time in a little over 2 months!  I was really afraid actually, b/c she is known for her speed and athleticism, and I had done maybe 3.5 miles tops in the past few weeks.  When I got there at 6:40, we decided to do a 4.5 mile hilly run through the Forest Park and Avondale area. I am happy to report that I made it through the run fairly well and with decent speed.  Vero is a real talker, which I love since I like to listen.  I did my fair share of talking as well though, and I was able to maintain story telling while on some of our biggest hills.  I need to figure out when my marathon training officially starts… I believe it is the fist or second week of October.  So, it is nice to have a little bit of a base built up before I get started with that.

I noticed this morning for the first time that the leaves are beginning to change.  The air is cool and slightly damp, which made for perfect running weather. I know there are some people who get depressed in the fall b/c that’s when things start dying outside, but for some reason I find it to be especially beautiful.  I don’t look at it as a time of death, but more as a time when nature doesn’t have to try so hard.  Things are more relaxed in general, and the excitement of the holidays is just around the corner.  I feel like spring and summer are times when life is really focused around work and being productive, so it is nice when a little bit of the pressure is taken off as the seasons start to change.

Exercise really helps me with my body image.  I’ve been feeling a little down about the way I look recently, but after a good run my perception changes significantly.  Right now I feel really strong, confident and beautiful.  I am proud of the way I bounced back, it says a lot about my mental dedication and physical resilience.  I am just so lucky to have my running buddies around whenever I am back in the groove!
