This morning I did something that I haven’t done in a loooooong time… I got up and ran with Vero!  It was pitch black when I walked out of my mini house this morning at 6:25 (thanks Daylight Savings).  But the weather was perfect, and it was actually kind of fun to watch the sun rise during our 4.5 mile hilly trek.  I did well considering that I’ve been running alone for about 5-6 months…coupled with the fact that Vero is nothing short of a speed demon.  🙂  We talked (when I had the breath) about all sorts of things, and it made me miss seeing her all the time in that way.  We used to run 4-5 days a week together for over a year until I got too lazy to get out bed in the mornings.  But sometimes it is nice to break up a schedule and mix it up a bit… so I went to afternoons instead for a little while.  Running in the mornings and afternoons are two very different experiences.  The mornings are energizing and the body responds well to the jolt.  The afternoons are more peaceful and a tad lower energy for me.  I am more inclined to listen to music in the later hours to relax from my day.  When Vero and I run together though, we talk from beginning to end.  No subject is off limits.  I should pay her hourly for her time as she ends up becoming a life coach and motivator for me.  I hope that I offer her the same perspective that she gives me so often.  There are few things better than time spent with a dear friend.

Two awesome things have happened in the past 24 hours.  First, my friend Glenny Brock (editor-in-chief of WELD) did a post yesterday about my blog and the documentary “Something in Particular.”  Click here to read it.  It is a great post.  I love that she called me the cultural equivalent of a storm chaser…that is definitely going in my resume.  😀  The other random, yet awesome, thing that happened was that I learned that my “I Did It!” story is featured on the national Fox News website today.  Click here to see it.  My new friend Tommy Everett alerted me to it on Facebook.  (Thanks Tommy!)  So it’s been a good start to the week for The Jen West Quest, indeed.

Monthly date with Debbie. 🙂

Early morning run with Vero. It was nothing short of a miracle that I even got out of bed...

4.5 miles done! You can tell how humid it was from this photo...

A great way to start the morning after a good run.
